As you may be aware, in late April 2008, the Senate had passed S. 1315 a benefit enhancement bill for veterans, including the Filipino WWII veterans. Though such proposed legislation certainly enhances benefits to Filipino WWII veterans, it still falls short of granting full equity to all Filipino WWII veterans, to the extent that it grants full pension to qualifying Filipino WWII veterans living in the U.S. BUT only provides a portion of that pension to those Filipino WWII veterans residing outside the U.S. (e.g. Philippines, etc.) .

Our job remains unfinished.

This is an invitation for you to help bring final resolution to the fight for full equity for Filipino WWII veterans by joining the Student Action for Veterans Equity (SAVE) as we urge the Congressional House of Representatives to properly rectify this injustice. In particular, we are asking for you to join in SAVE’s 5th Annual Week of Action commencing on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. See details below. Our annual week of action coincides with the July 26, 1941 anniversary of President Roosevelt’s order inducting Filipino WWII soldier under U.S. command. It was by this single act, the Filipino WWII veterans served under the U.S. Flag and were promised benefits for such military services, which later were stripped away from them.

For the Week of Action, we will be continuing our efforts in bridging the generational gap between veteranos and students through events and outreach. SAVE and community supporters will be spearheading a National Day of Action on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 which can only be successful with the support an efforts of organization like yours.
