Introducing our new faculty advisor: Professor Lois Schwartz by Paul Rivera

shwartz-loisLecturer in Law and full-time member of the faculty at UC Hastings. She received her J.D. from Boalt Hall in 1989, and in 2001-2002 served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable D. Lowell Jensen at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Professor Schwartz also holds Master’s Degrees from the University of Chicago in English and Library Science.

In 2006 and 2007, she won the Teacher of the Year award at Hastings for Moot Court. Ms. Schwartz has also taught at UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) School of Law, Golden Gate University School of Law, Santa Clara University School of Law, and USF Law School. She served as Acting Dean at John F. Kennedy University School of Law in 1996-1997.
Practice experience includes a longstanding association with the law firm of Girard & Vinson in Walnut Creek, specializing in education law, a stint as a Public Defender in Contra Costa County, and special assignments in the Staff Attorneys’ Office in Contra Costa County. Publications include “Admitted But Not Accepted: Outsiders Take an Inside Look at Law School” in the Berkeley Women’s Law Journal, 1989-1990. The article was based on an empirical study on race and gender differences in legal education. In March 2006, Professor Schwartz participated in a symposium on the topic at Harvard Law School.
