Since its founding in 1990, BAMSCP has helped law firms and other organizations recruit over 300 minority law students into their summer programs. The purpose of BAMSCP is to introduce talented minority first year students who might not have been selected for the firms’ traditional summer to the firm or corporate experience, while at the same time furthering the desire of many firms in today’s marketplace to further diversity goals and provide opportunities to young lawyers.  Please complete the BAMSCP Application and return to the SCCBA, 31 N. Second St., #400, San Jose, CA 95113.

The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources is pleased to announce the sponsorship of several Diversity Fellowships for law students during the summer of 2009.  The ABA Diversity Fellowship in Environmental Law program is designed to encourage disadvantaged or traditionally underrepresented law students to study and pursue careers in environmental law and is open to first and second year law students and third year night students. Please feel free to forward this message on to anyone you know who may be interested in this opportunity.

The Fellowship guidelines require an 8-10 week minimum commitment wherein the recipient will work on legal matters for a government agency or public interest organization in the fields of environmental, energy, or resources law, with emphasis on air pollution.  Additionally, each recipient will participate in meetings of the bar association’s relevant committees and be assigned a mentor to aid in his or her pursuit of a career in environmental law.  Employment opportunities shall be provided within LA County and Central Valley area basins.

Each successful recipient will receive a $5,000 stipend in exchange for participation in the Fellowship program.  The stipend does not cover travel expenses or include a housing allowance; these expenses are paid by the Fellowship recipient.

Completed applications and all related documents must be postmarked or emailed no later than January 15, 2009 to be considered.
