The UCSF/UCHASTINGS Consortium on Law, Science and Health Policy and the Hastings Women’s Law Journal are pleased to announce an upcoming symposium entitled “Frontiers in Women’s Health: The Role of Hormones in Aging and Disease.” The symposium will take place on Friday, February 25, 2011, at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Admission is FREE and 7 hours MCLE credit is available to attendees

This unique event will draw together speakers and attendees from the medical, legal and policy communities, and will present opportunities for members of each community to interact with and understand the perspectives of the others. The morning will begin with an overview of the now-familiar topic of hormone therapy in peri-menopausal and menopausal women, with an in-depth discussion of the Women’s Health Initiative hormone trial data and the controversies the data have engendered since the trials were halted. This will be the “jumping-off point” for a wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary set of panels, including discussions about health policy decision making, informed consent, litigation over hormone use, and gendered medicine.

PALS/VALS Karaoke Night: FINAL DETAILS! by uchastingspals

Karaoke Night is shaping up to be an epic event.  There’s going to be good food, good booze, and (since PALS will be singing) GREAT music.  All in a private karaoke room that PALS has reserved for THREE HOURS.  That’s plenty of time for Kelvin Ko and Matt Tabo to express their feelings (for each other).

Some snacks and drink specials will start us off.  After that everyone will be able to purchase drinks/food from the menu, so please bring some extra cash.  Remember: happy hour lasts only till 9 pm so make sure to arrive early!

Date: Friday, February 18th
Time: 7:45 pm – 10:45 pm
Cost: $10 per person
Location: Pandora
Address: 177 Eddy St. (between Taylor St. and Mason St.)

The best bet for insuring that you make it into the private room is to RSVP either on the facebook event page or directly to tylercesar@gmail.com.

Directions: From school or the Tower, head east on McAllister, towards Market.  Turn left on Market.  Turn left on 6th/Taylor.  Then make your second right onto Eddy.

Caution:  If you are walking from school to Pandora, please be careful and always walk in groups!  Respect the T-loin and the T-Loin will respect you.  Or at the very least, it will not rob you.

Public Safety Escort Van: Pandora is within the Public Safety Escort Van’s coverage and leaves the 200 building every half-hour starting at 5:00 pm.  So, you should be able to catch the 7:30 pm shuttle and get to Pandora in time which is the safest alternative (not to mention the most stylish).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the PALS Social Chair, Tyler Cesar at the email above.

Filipinos and karaoke go together like… well like Filipinos and karaoke. This hasn’t been lost on the general public either. Before you can finish Googling “Filipinos love” Google will supply “karaoke”. Apparently Filipinos love karaoke more than eating and basketball. Hey, if Google says it, it has to be true.

It’s time to break out your Magic Mic and celebrate your inner Filipino! PALS is teaming up with VALS and doing Kara…oke on Friday, February 18th! Details are still being worked out, but so in the interest of planning ahead, here are the tentative deets:

Event: PALS/VALS Karaoke Night
Date: Friday, February 18th
Time: 8 pm – 12 pm (tentative) (ALSO, may have a pre-gaming/happy hour session to warm up those vocal chords)
Location: TBA

Cost: $20 (estimated) – as soon as the location is locked down we’ll have more details on price.

NOTE: This was a ton of fun last year and there has been a lot of interest this year. Space will be limited, so MAKE SURE you look out for the updates.

Last year for example, P4 was able to donate $3000 to Pinay Aspirations, a foundation that provides scholarships to high school graduating Filipino women in the Bay Area. The $3000 resulted in three out of the five scholarships Pinay Aspirations was able provide in 2010.

If you are interested in sponsoring or playing, please email p4external.philanthropy@gmail.com with the subject “2nd Annual Golf Tournament,” where the coordinators, Jesi Marquez and Dana Cruz will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.
